Sewa International would like to wish our extended family - volunteers, donors & well wishers, a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We would like you to know that you are an important part of all our activities. We also extend our thanks to you all for great support in past years.
We would like to take this opportunity to briefly update you on past year’s activities.
2007 in Review
With all your support, year 2007 has been a great success. Below are the highlights of 2007:
- Yuva for Sewa: Yuva for Sewa provides an opportunity for college students and young professionals to volunteer for sewa projects the world over. In the second year of this program, eight fellow volunteers worked on various projects in India , the Caribbean, and right here in USA . - Orissa & Bihar Flood Relief: The flood situation in India this year had been the worst in living memory. Bihar & Orissa were hit the hardest. Sewa USA supported the relief efforts and also worked on the challenging task of rehabilitation.
- Sewa Bharathi (www.sevabharathi.org)
- Gantur, AP, India : Provided educational resources to underprivileged students.
- Sainikpuri, Outskirts of Hyderabad , India : Renovation of primary schools and upgradation of infrastructure and teaching facilities were undertaken. These schools cater to the migrant slum children of Sainikpuri.
- Sewa International, India :
- Farmer suicide in the Vidarbha region of the Maharashtra and other parts of India is a grave and disturbing trend over the last 10 years. Funding was provided to support activities to develop alternative methods of generating income, organize self help groups for emotional support, and to promote organic farming.
- Building a primary school building in Rachnapet, Andhra Pradesh.
- Hindu Seva Pratishthana (www.hinduseva.org):
- Karnataka , India : Funded training camps for young women who are motivated towards social service (sevavratis).
- Bangalore , Karnataka , India : “Youth for Seva”(YFS) aims to connect college students and young professionals to various grass-roots organizations. YFS offers various volunteering models based on the skills of the volunteers.
- Kus-Kura Sociedad Civil sin fines de lucro (www.kan-tan.org), San Jose, Costa Rica: The main objective is to support initiatives aimed towards achieving integral improvement of indigenous peoples, encouraging local initiatives towards a self-sustainable development which allow the insertion of the indigenous person in the economic life of the country, maintaining their attachment to Nature, their identity and ancestral spirituality.
