School for Children with Special Needs
(Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy & Multiple Disabilities)

Realizing the need to extend a basic support, Aruna Chetana was started in December 1987 with a strength of 5 children with various disabilities. Today after 20 years, with the help of donations from all over the world, there are over 180 children and it is the only school in Bangalore that caters to children with multiple disabilities.
The school aims at providing a comprehensive service to children suffering from various disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy, mental retardation, visual and hearing Impairment Partially Visually Impaired, Spina Bi Fida, Autism, Dyslexia - Behavior and Emotional disorders, etc.

Most of the children here belong to economically and socially backward sections of the society. Aruna Chetana serves children regardless of their background, where providing them with an equal educational opportunity is of primary importance. As the number of children has increased, Aruna Chetana has taken another building on rent to provide vocational training.
Dedicated and experienced personnel provide services including Physiotherapy, Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, Academic education, self-management, Vocational training and Yoga.

It is a matter of pride that Aruna Chetana has been selected as an exemplar in the field and has been duly recognized by many Educational Institutions for demonstration and hands-on-experience. The following, to name a few, have recognized Aruna Chetana:

Vocational Training:
A Vocational Training Center was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister, Government of Karnataka, Smt.Motamma, in Peenya Industrial Estate, Bangalore on 9th July 2002. Dr. C.R. Chandrasekhar has donated the site for this Institution. Candle making, Carpentry, manufacturing of teaching aids, Preparing of tooth powder, Paper-cover making etc., are some of the activities undertaken at the Center presently. Though not self sufficient these activities generate small income.
