Sewa International Appeal to Contribute Towards Myanmar Cyclone Relief Effort

Sewa International, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation, is urgently soliciting funds to assist victims of the recent Nargis cyclone in Myanmar. The cyclone has left more than 100,000 dead/ missing in Myanmar. Scale of disaster is such that more than a million people are rendered homeless. Those who are alive could not get the food, medical and other essential supplies. A big part of Irrawaddy delta is still water flooded. There is an urgent need for food packets, fresh water, clothing, medication and temporary shelter for the victims. Sewa International is providing emergency assistance and distributing emergency kits to cyclone affected people in Myanmar. Donations will be used to purchase these needed items for immediate distribution and rehabilitation.

Sewa International has network of volunteers and partner organizations active in the cyclone affected areas. We intend to send a team of Doctor’s of National Medicos Organization (NMO), who has readily accepted to volunteer for us to help the needy. We also intend to distribute essential relief materials such as mosquito nets, cooking kits, clothing and other essential commodities as per needs.

In past, Sewa International has undertaken relief activities in major disasters such as Super Cyclone in Orissa in December 1999, Gujarat Earthquake of January 2001, Tsunami of December 2004 (India and Sri Lanka) and Jammu & Kashmir Earthquake of December 2005, and also serving the Hurricane Katrina victims in the USA and flood relief in Guyana. These activities ranged from providing immediate medical treatment, shelter, and food to the victims and also providing them permanent accommodation, vocational assistance, psychological succor over a longer period of time.
