EK SHAM SEWA KE NAAM
Atlanta GA – Friday April 29, 2005 The Atlanta chapter of Sewa International USA organized “EK SHAM SEWA KE NAAM” Live and Karaoke Evergreen Bollywood Musical hits Performed by Well and Renowned Atlanta musical Group ANDAAZ Entertainment on Friday April 29th, 2005 at Mirch Masala Indian cuisine. The Event was Fund Raising-CUM-SEWA Awareness concert. This musical concert was a Family entertainment with music, fun and off course a very fine Indian cuisine in dinner and to raise money for Flood Relief operation in Guyana by Sewa Guyana.
Sewa Pramukh of Sewa international,USA Srikant Konda inaugareted the Program by chanting the Prayer. “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niraamayah, Sarve Bhadraani Pashyantu, Maa Kaschid Dukha Mapnuyat. Om Shanthi Shanthi Shanthi.” Which Means “O Lord, In Thee May All Be Happy, May All Be Free From Misery, May All Realize Goodness, And May No One Suffer Pain". This Prayer Reflect the ideals of Sewa International.
Andaaz Entertainment Group, An Atlanta Based musical Group has some of the brightest singers who performed in the program. The Program was compeer by Viniya, A student and an vibrant activist involve in community service. She invited Ms. Anjana Shajan, an Eleven year old Girl Student of Indian Classical Music to sing the first Song and the song was “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” from famous hindi movie with same Name. Then Ashok Goyal swing the mood of audience to late sixty by singing a melody from Raj kapoor’s Shree 420 “Mera Joota Hai Japani” After that a wave full of music and fun started at the ocean of Audience in Mirch Masala with many good singers performing. Nimita Goyal, Ashok Goyal, Anand Mehta, Jhanvi Mehta, Ajay Upadhya, Vijal Shah, Rajesh Jyotishi, Anjana Shajan, Amit Dave, Chandrakant Patel, Deepa Patel, Rafiq Batcha, Manju and Dhanraj Jain are some of them. Audience was involved not only in listening to the melody of music but to participate on stage and some of the singers from audience also contributed from the stage by performing songs. One such person from audience was Mr. Turner Persaud from Indian Guyanese community sang a Hindi song. This Musical Event Started at 800 PM and went till 1:30 AM and people still glued to their chair to listen more.
Mr. ShyamLal Tiwari Head Public Relation VISHWA HINDU PARISHAD was invited to give certificate to all the singers and compeer Viniya for their active support in community service and making this event more than a success.
“SEWA PARMO DHARMAh” Means “Service is the Greatest Duty of Human” is the Moto of SEWA International USA (Sewa USA), which is the U.S. affiliate of SEWA International, a Global service organization. In past, Sewa International had worked on relief and rehabilitation for Gujarat earthquake, Orissa flood, Latur earthquake and many other calamities. SEWA also funds various welfare and educational projects. In India, welfare of tribal people, organizing schools for poor children, blood donation camps and health care seminars are some of the impressive examples of SEWA's helping hand.
Recently in Tsunami Affected Area SEWA was one of the first organizations to depute teams of volunteers and commence relief operations in the affected areas
For immediate relief SEWA has, on an unprecedented basis:
- Commenced provision of relief materials like medical supplies, precooked food, utensils, and daily consumables (Ex. soap, toothpaste, brush, clothes, etc.).
- Set up 32 medical camps in the affected areas of southern India and the Andaman islands.
- Established 17 base camps with community kitchens in the affected areas of Tamil Nadu.
- Installed a water purification plant in Nagapattinam with 20,000 liters per day capacity.
- Set up 3 relief camps in Port Blair & 7 relief camps on other islands of Andaman & Nicobar.
- Conducted survey of 65 out of 82 affected villages in AP to determine relief requirements, and is thereafter providing the necessary relief materials on an on-going basis.
- Started providing post-traumatic counseling service to the affected people.
- Team of volunteers dispatched to work in affected areas in Sri Lanka
