About Hurricane Harvey
Hurricane Harvey was a Category 4 storm that hit Texas on August 25, 2017. It caused $125 billion in damage according to the National Hurricane Center. It affected 13 million people from Texas through Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky.Harvey made landfall three times in six days. On September 1, 2017, one-third of Houston was underwater, turning roads into rivers. Flooding forced 39,000 people out of their homes and into shelters.
The selfless volunteers of SEWA International served the victims of the Hurricane harvey by handling distress calls, rescue and relief operations. Dedicated volunteers from Indian Community were out in trucks and boats risking their own safety and supplied food, shelter and medical assistance to thousands of people.
This Hurricane Harvey recovery project was funded in part by a grant from the American Red Cross.
