Indian Vegetarian Diet

Balancing Blood Sugar/ Protein for good health

The Indian Vegetarian Diet and Nutrition Seminar focused on balancing blood sugar led by Dr. Shivani Sharma a board certified dietitian.

It was a great opportunity for people to learn about how to create healthy balance Indian meals ensuring we meet our nutritional standards as well as having long term sustainable food choices. Dr. Shivani Sharma started off by discussing the importance of why having a stable blood sugar is important followed by causes of the fluctuation of blood sugar

Afterwards, she talked about complex and simple carbohydrates and what Indian foods fit into each category. She then had an interactive discussion about how to manage blood sugar by using the PFF diet known as the protein fiber and fat diet which emphasizes pairing carbs with more protein, fiber, or fat. She patiently answered questions about diet and different ways to manage blood sugar levels. I learnt so much about how different aspects of a diet can affect your health in different ways.

At the end of the session she handed out a week long diet plan and a chart showing what foods to avoid and what food to eat more of. Overall 1 had a great time and the session was very informative

The Need for Family Services
Usually, we are not prepared to handle life’s unexpected situations alone. We approach our family and close friends for support and assistance. At times, we may find that we do not have the necessary resources within this small circle – either due to a lack of relevant skills or due to the constraints of time and distance. We plan to expand this circle via Family Services in order to empower the community to meet their urgent needs.

Our Goal:

To help individuals and families get through difficult times or crisis by providing immediate access to information, resources or any adequate support to the families in emergency situations, so that they get caring and compassionate help in difficult times and get through the crisis with less stress.

We aim to

  • Create a support structure.
  • Create a support structure for the community and by the community to help facilitate people in need by providing information or by providing a volunteer that can help.
  • Create an information repository.
  • Provide a helpline number.
  • Build a local database of volunteers.
  • Build a pool of volunteers who have the passion and sense to help those community members in need.
  • Network with others.
We collaborate with other service agencies and community organizations within the community to enlist their help when the need arises.

Areas we serve:

  • Health/Medical processes Guidance
  • Family Support
  • Crisis Support
  • Health Insurance & Other Service Access
  • Food preparation & Meal Delivery
  • Transportation for medical necessities
  • Operational Support

How can you help ?
Sewa Family Case Management Service team is building a support network in the community. As a member of this network, you can help by providing your pro bono services or becoming a case volunteer, who can actually work in the field. Sewa encourages you to stay informed of our activities, asks you to become our advocate by passing on the word to motivate others and requests you to become our passionate volunteers, so that Sewa can dedicatedly provide services to the community.
