Introduction

Feeding the Hungry’ is the flagship program of Sewa International Boston Chapter. The key objective of this program is ‘To care and make a difference’ and Increase our reach and volunteers.’ Hunger is a feeling we all have experienced but for some it lasts not for hours but for days! Sometimes we see it every day, while driving around the city, at street corners, or at traffic signals-The haunted, lingering look of hunger. However, solution to the daunting and all-pervasive challenge of hunger is astoundingly simple and we at Sewa have united for the cause of humanity and have taken up the task of battling hunger. Feeding the hungry helps people take action against the hunger epidemic and there is significant merit in helping the needy with food.

Over the years, Sewa Boston has partnered with several shelters, food banks, pantries and soup kitchens to donate food and support community members. Some of our key initiatives are:

Food drives- Sewa Boston has 2 annual food drives, the Winter Food drive usually held in January and Diwali food drive held in November.

Preparing meals at Soup Kitchens- Volunteers visit different meal centers once a month to prepare nutritious meals for adults & children. From hot breakfast to lunches for 250+ people a day, Sewa volunteers have prepared 10,000 plus meals.

Drive-Thru stations– Sewa volunteers have organized drive-thru pantries to provide fresh groceries and essential items in low-income neighborhoods.

Donating Packed Meals- Sewa Boston is associated with many local caterers and restaurants which prepare meal boxes at discounted rates. Donations are utilized to distribute complete meal boxes at the shelters.

Raise Funds- Sewa Boston has raised funds for this cause through corporate donations and event sponsorships.

There is nothing bigger than ‘Annadanam’ or feeding the hungry…through our sustained efforts we hope to touch the lives of a few In need and ‘Make a Difference’
