Disaster Case Manager

AmeriCorps Disaster Case Manager, 25 hrs/week (3 Positions)

  • Total number of hours: Half Time 900-- which include training, service hours and professional development
  • Living Allowance $10,500 Education Award $3,247.50
  • September 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023

Service Location: Sewa Office /In the community

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In the aftermath of COVID participate in pilot program for Mental Health and Wellbeing “Just Checking up on You” which supports individuals who sign up for the program through daily, thrice-weekly phone calls checking on participants’ mental and emotional wellbeing and health
  • Stay current on available resources and services
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of available programs
  • Track referrals and services
  • Keep robust notes of the work done on the case on CiviCRM
  • Outreach to survivors in times of disaster or emergency
  • Assess unmet recovery needs with the client through interviews
  • Explore all available options, and identify the clients’ own resources and access government and community resources that will address the disaster-caused need
  • Work with Clients to develop a Recovery Plan
  • Make appropriate referrals to fill gaps in assistance
  • Stay current on available resources and services
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of available programs
  • Track referrals and services
  • Keep robust notes of the work done on the case on CiviCRM
  • Maintain case files and other paperwork as required

Required/Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bilingual preferred -- Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Urdu or Chinese
  • Public speaking skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Self-initiative and responsibility
  • Ability to work well in a Team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • A commitment to humanitarian issues, equal access to opportunity, and building resilient, welcoming communities

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or ongoing studies and comparable work experience in that can be applied to the requirements of this position

Service Conditions: Education:

  • Office and offsite including home visits
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.
  • Enrollment in the program is contingent on the results of a National Service Criminal History Check that includes FBI fingerprinting and national record check, National Sex Offender Registry, and state criminal background check.
